Day 90: Trying New Things

Posted by sbd4sbp on July 14, 2008

The scale has been very noncommittal the past couple of days. I think I still weigh 197 this morning. A couple of times it said 196.5, but it also said 199 a time or two (and I know that is wrong). I’m going with the 197 because it’s the closest to yesterday’s being that it is exactly the same.

Anyway, had a pretty successful weekend. Friday night Hubbo and I went out on a date. I had several things that are allowed on Phase II in moderation: red wine, rice pilaf, wheat bread. I felt guilty afterward because although I know they’re all technically legal, I felt like I shouldn’t have had them all together (and also because I had a handful – maybe 10 – of peanut M&Ms at work that day.) I gained half a pound that day but it didn’t really bother me – could have been worse.

Yesterday we went shopping at Whole Foods for a couple things, and this is always a treat for me. We got some whole wheat mini pitas to stuff! We’re both pretty excited about that. We’re also going to try the Ezekiel 4:9 pitas to see what we think. I’ve heard both great and terrible things about Ezekiel 4:9 products, so we want to make our own decision about them.

I guess that’s about it, but I can throw in this: I made the Gazpacho recipe from the book last week for some lunches. Delicious! I never thought it would taste like that.

  1. Day 90. That is so awesome. You’ve been conscientiously working on getting healthy for 90 days in a row. That is so great. I hope I’m doing as good as you are at Day 90. Great Job. I’ll have to look for that Ezekiel bread. I saw that the woman who was on the Today show this morning joining the Joy Fit Club for losing 121 lbs also eats Ezekiel bread. I’d never heard of it.

Ha, well. Not exactly 90 days in a row… But yes, a lot of the time for a long time. The great thing about being on the diet for this long is that is does look like you’re doing awesome even if you feel like you’ve only been doing so-so for a while. Little bits add up!

Just an encouragement to try to avoid weighing every day. You weight varies day to day, not necessarily because you eat 10 M&Ms, but by how much liquid you drink. Consider a gallon of water weighs just over 8 pounds. If you drink one extra glass of water in the day, it will increase your weight by half a pound. Two cups = 1 pound. Consider weighing once per week, just after waking.

Listen to Kevin, everyone!! He is so right. I tend to be kind of obsessive about weighing every day because I worry that I’m going in the wrong direction and I won’t be able to stop it until it’s too late. This fear is completely irrational! If you are mentally able to restrain yourself from weighing in every day, DO IT. I can’t stop myself personally. But: my way of combating the fact that I weigh in daily is that I only take one number per week (the Wednesday number) as official. That way I can truly mark my progress by week even if I don’t like what I see each day. — Sarah (FF)
